Santoro Gorjuss Decoupage Birthday Card

This card is a little different to my usual style, but as I received a Santoro Gorjuss decoupage set free with a order, I thought I would use it in this birthday card.

Santoro Gorjuss Decoupage Lilac Birthday Card

I started with the decoupage which was quite easy to pop out of the sheets and just needed a little snipping to tidy up the edges. I used large and small sized square foam pads, as there were some fiddly small sections that needed a tiny foam square on the layers (such as the collar on the dress).

Then I added two extra layers behind the decoupage using Xcut nesting oval and scalloped oval dies. I used papers that I received free with a retired Sweet Dixie die I bought from eBay, so this really was a great value card to make! I also received the matching buttons with my free decoupage set, which matched really well with this card.

Next I added a wide black grosgrain ribbon and added a teal satin ribbon on top to add a different texture, with a hand-tied lilac ribbon added on top. Finally, on top of this I added a peel-off sentiment on to purple card which I layered with the same teal paper I used to back the decoupage, and added this using more 3D foam.

I will be entering this into the anything goes challenges over at Inspiration Destination and Lemon Shortbread.

Hand painted background birthday card

This card is inspired by the ‘make your mark’ challenge over at Addicted to Stamps and More. I will also be entering this painted background birthday card into the anything goes challenges over at Inspiration Destination and Penny’s Paper Crafty Challenge.

Metallic painted background card: silver, mint and lilac

I started with metallic paints from Aztec paints in a lilac, mint green and silver and used a flat wash brush to create this mixed thin stripe background. After letting this dry, I trimmed the card and mounted it on silver mirror card. Then I added a silver Happy Birthday die cut and added two sized matching lilac flower gems.

This is the first time I have tried painting a full background and I really like the effect. I can’t wait to try out other colours and different styles too.

Thanks a bunch! Monochrome thank you card

This thank you card was inspired by the monochrome theme over at Crafty Friends and I am also entering this into the anything goes challenge over at Inspiration Destination.

With thanks floral monochrome card

I started with a square white card and chose two monochrome patterned papers from the DCWV black and white paper mat stack. Next I used a flower Sweet Dixie cutting die and cut the petals out of black, then a grey rose print, and finally the same ditsy floral print as the paper layer on the card. I stuck all three of them all together with Tattered Lace detail glue and added a black gem to the centre of the flower.

Next I used another Sweet Dixie die to cut the With Thanks sentiment from black card and added this to the card with more of the Tattered Lace detail glue. Finally I added three more of the same black gems to the corner of the card to even the design out.

I really like this design, even though I was so tempted to add bright coloured gems to the flowers! I think I may try this same layout with brights next.

Mojo Monday card sketch challenge

This card is inspired by the sketch challenge over at Mojo Monday (which is below). This is a quick one today as I haven’t managed to keep up with the challenges I normally participate in this week, but next week I should be back on schedule and taking part throughout the week (if life doesn’t get in the way again!).

Three silver hearts pink glitter card

I started with a large slim metallic silver card for a base and added the two layers in black metallic and silver mirror card. On the black metallic card I added three die cut silver mirror card hearts with a silver gem tucked in the curve of each heart.

The sentiment is a clear sticker from Daisy & Dandelion added to a die cut silver mirror card circle. I added a black brad to the tag and mounted this using foam pad. I used a bright pink glitter ribbon at the bottom of the card and added black gems to the pink metallic layer and at the bottom right of the card. This would make a perfect Valentine’s Day or Anniversary card.

Lilac Happy Birthday Cute Cat Card

This card is inspired by the #369 sketch challenge over at Tuesday Morning Sketches (sketch below).  This happy birthday cute cat card is on a 5 x 7 inch lilac card and I started with lovely pastel papers from American Crafts.

Cute Cat Happy Birthday Lilac Cat Card

The striped card makes up the bottom layer then I added the floral layer and an extra strip of the gingham lilac card which I had leftover from a DCWV mat stack. I added a slim silver ribbon and stamped on a die cut circle (from an Xcut nesting die set) before adding the bow making it look like a tag. Then I added the clear sticker on the lilac card which matches the card blank and added a scalloped circle die cut behind this – then I added them using foam tape to add dimension to the card. Finally I added three little pastel flower gems in the top left corner of the card to finish off the design.

I am also entering this card into the Lemon Shortbread #24 Anything goes challenge.

As the focus of this post is a cute cat card I thought I might also add a cute photo of one of our cats – Pumpkin, who was enjoying the last of the summer sunshine today.

Pink and Silver Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

This is my entry to the Seize the Birthday challenge this week, a pink birthday butterfly card.

The base card is 5 x 7 inches and I added a DCWV mat from the Blossoms and Butterflies mat stack with a silver mat underneath it. I used a silver mirror card die cut birthday message and added these to the same patterned card with another silver mat underneath.

Finally I added a hologram sticker on top of card which I fussy cut and then added with foam pads, and stuck gems to the flowers on the foiled pattern on the card to match the colours of the butterfly.

Pink and Silver Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

I think I am going to have to really focus on festive crafting soon as I was reminded it is now less than 100 days until the big day! I even heard the first Christmas song of the year on Radio 1 – Maria Carey’s All I want for Christmas is you!

Happy Birthday Cupcake Card

This card was inspired by a very festive week in the Houlding household as it was my birthday! This sums up the party atmosphere and the sweets and treats we consumed by the bucket-load! The colours of this Happy Birthday Cupcake card are right up my street and reflected all the bright birthday cards my lovely friends and family gave to me too.

Happy Birthday Cupcake card

I used an Elizabeth Craft Design cupcake cutting die and some of my favourite papers from American crafts. The stamp is from a clear Daisy & Dandelion set and I added black gems in the centre of the bow and at the edge of the cards. I am really starting to notice how contemporary cards look when you add black as an accent colour and this is especially true in this card.

I am entering this card in the following challenges: Simon Says Stamp (anything goes) and Inspiration Destination #102 (anything goes).

Technique challenge: watercolour Christmas card

Over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown there is a technique challenge this week: watercolouring. So here is my watercolour Christmas card…

Forever Friends Watercolour Christmas Card: diagonal stripes

I started with a Forever Friends Christmas stamp with a little bear decorating the Christmas tree – so cute! I stamped this in graphite black using a Brilliance Dew Drop Pigment Ink Pad. After waiting for this to dry I used watercolour pencils and a paintbrush and water to colour the image.

I had some really tiny star gems which I never thought I would use, but they were the perfect size for the stars on the tree. I added round gems from the same set to the corner on the card the image is stamped on and then mounted this on striped paper from a Me To You set.

Finally I stamped the sentiment using another brilliance dew drop ink pad in pearlescent ivy and added the same small round gems in the corners to match the rest of the card.

I will also be entering this card into the ‘anything goes’ challenge over at Through The Craft Room Door.

It’s hip to be square – 21st Birthday Card

The challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is ‘it’s hip to be square’ – so I have taken squares and rotated squares (diamonds) and really run with it with this 21st birthday card.

21st Birthday Square Cream and Black Card

The Happy Birthday sentiment stamp is by Daisy & Dandelion, and the border is die cut using a Sweet Dixie die.

I will also be entering this card in to the challenges over at Inspiration Destination (anything goes) and Cute Card Thursday (words or numbers).

It’s short and sweet for me today as it was my first day back at work after having time off to recover from surgery and it has taken a bit of a toll today, I will certainly sleep soundly tonight!

A handmade Christmas card – a real gift

With less than four months until Christmas I am now very happy to be completing more Christmas challenges and making more handmade Christmas cards, so that I will be prepared when the festive season comes. Although I normally get into the swing of festive cheer quite early in the year, we have a birthday and then a holiday in September this year, so I think when we get back the next big event will be Christmas!

Pink, green and red Christmas card featuring a gift and snowflakes

This card is inspired by the challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown which this week is: gifts. I started with one of my favourite dies from Sweet Dixie – a gift box with elaborate bow details. I cut this using my Big Shot Plus in a pink card and a green card with gold glitter and then cut the ribbon section from the pink card and decoupaged this.

Then I stamped the sentiment with a Hobbycraft clear stamp (which I picked up for a bargain 85p!) using a brilliance dew drop ink pad in pearlescent ivy. The papers are from a set with no branding, but I really like the unusual colour combination on these. After adding the ribbon in pink I added a final gem to the centre of the bow in red.

I am also entering this card into the ‘holiday’ challenge over at Addicted to Stamps and More.
