Hand painted background birthday card

This card is inspired by the ‘make your mark’ challenge over at Addicted to Stamps and More. I will also be entering this painted background birthday card into the anything goes challenges over at Inspiration Destination and Penny’s Paper Crafty Challenge.

Metallic painted background card: silver, mint and lilac

I started with metallic paints from Aztec paints in a lilac, mint green and silver and used a flat wash brush to create this mixed thin stripe background. After letting this dry, I trimmed the card and mounted it on silver mirror card. Then I added a silver Happy Birthday die cut and added two sized matching lilac flower gems.

This is the first time I have tried painting a full background and I really like the effect. I can’t wait to try out other colours and different styles too.

Clean and simple Christmas Card

This card is inspired by the themes over at Tuesday Throwdown which this week is ‘clean and simple’ and ‘anything goes’ over at Through the Craft Room Door.

Clean and Simple Christmas Card - Red and green baubles

I really love the simplicity of this design – this might just be a contender to make multiples for Christmas this year. It’s clean and simple after all and one of the guidelines for the style is that it can be easy replicated!

I started with die cut baubles, which I didn’t die cut myself, but that I had leftover from a Christmas crafting set. I stamped the snowflakes in brilliance dew drop ink pads in Rocket Red and Pearlescent Ivy. After leaving them to dry I added gems to the centre of the snowflakes. I added these with a thin silver ribbon attached to the top. I did consider adding bows but it made the design a little fussy so left it just as a linear line.

Then I stamped the sentiment on more white card and added this with 3D foam to add dimension as I chose not to layer this with a surround as I would normally be tempted to – it keeps it nice and clean. I also made sure the card was not textured so that it would stand out against the textured card blank underneath.

Fun bunch of birthday balloons card

The theme over at CASology this week is: fun! I knew I wanted to try out my new balloon die and this was the perfect opportunity to create a fun bunch of birthday balloons card with a big fun bunch of balloons.

Fun Birthday Balloon Card: Dark bunch of balloons

When I started die cutting I was using all the scraps in my pre-cut paper draw and I had lots of lovely pastels and pink colours, but then I realised this could be a great opportunity to try and make a unisex card, so I picked out the darker colours for the bunch of balloons.

I then used the sentiment die that comes in the same set as the balloon. It cuts out all the inners that can’t be used to create the holes so I added the holes with silver pearl drops. I also used the silver pearl drops to create the strings for the balloons too.

I am really looking forward to using this balloon die again as it will be really easy to create really different looking cards just by selecting different coloured card, and maybe even using patterned paper too.

Clean and simple style card – sweet!

This card is my entry for the clean and simple challenge over at the Paper Players this week which is: something sweet. For this card I started with my new die from Elizabeth Craft Designs and die cut the topping with this fantastic sprinkle paper from American Crafts.

I then layered this on white card and more of the same paper using an XCut scalloped square die. I added a crimson red ribbon and four little matching red gems and a green one for the bow on the cupcake.

Feeling dizzy and seeing stars!

The theme over at CASology this week is dizzy, and initially I got a bit caught up in all the things which make you dizzy and I struggled with a concept, so I went back to the drawing board and what happens when you feel dizzy? You see stars!

I am also combining this challenge with the anything goes challenge blog: Inspiration Destination.

CAS birthday teal stars

The sentiment border is a peel-off sticker, as are the stars and candle squares, which I stuck on silver mirror card and cut around them, I then affixed them with foam pads to add a little dimension. Hopefully you can see that in the close-up below.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown

There is a sketch over on the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown (see below) this week. When I started this I used baubles in place of the trees but as I was playing around with the layout they migrated up and across the card – so much so that I’m not sure my final card would have quite fit this sketch anymore! So I started again, and I am really happy with how this clean and simple design turned out.

A white card with two Christmas trees in the bottom right corner and a red ribbon from top to bottom

I was really tempted to consider replicating this for my personal Christmas cards this year, but cutting around the trees was quite fiddly and I think I might get a tad frustrated if I had to do that over and over. The trees are peel-off stickers from Dawn Bibby, as is the sentiment sticker and the ribbon is from my stash.
