It’s a girl – polka dot pink new baby card

I was so excited to make this pink new baby card today as I got to use one of my new embossing folders – the polka dot Xcut embossing folder.

New Baby: it's a girl pink card

I am entering this card into the Crafting by Designs challenge where the theme is ‘stitching’, the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge which has a clean and simple (CAS) theme this week and Addicted to CAS where the theme is ‘stitched’.

I started with a 5 x 7 inch baby pink card and then took a matching pink card and ran this through my Big Shot Plus using a 6 x 6 inch Xcut polka dot embossing folder and mounted this on the card using double sided tape.

The sentiment is a sticker from DCWV which has stitching in white around the border of the it’s a girl message. I stuck this to some more of the same pink card and cut this out leaving a border, then I added this to the card using double sided tape. Initially I tried this with a further stitch effect border using Ranger liquid pearls, but I thought it looked too fussy against the polka dot embossing, so I trimmed the border to leave it with just the printed stitching on the sticker.

Finally I stuck another DCWV sticker, this one a round pram icon, to more pink card and then fussy cut this out and mounted it using foam tape.

Celebratory Happy Birthday Cupcake Card

This birthday cupcake card is my entry into the anything goes challenges over at Penny’s Paper Crafty Challenge and Inspiration Destination.

Happy Birthday Cupcake Card: Blue, Green and Black

Other than my Sweet Dixie dies which you all know I love if you have read more than a couple of my blog posts, this is one of my other favourite dies and it is from Elizabeth Craft Designs. This time I have avoided pink when using this die in an effort to make this card more unisex. I am now working in an office with lots of men and it reminds me that I should create more cards for men, but it is tricky when your crafting area is full of lots of glittery and flowery ribbons and gems that shout feminine!

I started with some of my go-to papers by American Crafts and picked out aqua blue from the papers to create mats for the layers of the card and black, white and green for the cupcake itself. I used an Xcut scalloped square from a nesting die set for the mat under the paper layer with the cupcake on and regular squares for the other layer.

I stamped the sentiment and heat embossed this with red embossing powder. When layering everything together I then added a black satin ribbon to add a little extra texture to the card.

Feeling festive with a snowman Christmas card

This card is inspired by the sketch over at the Tuesday Throwdown (below), and I am also entering this snowman Christmas card into the anything goes challenges over at Through the Craft Room Door and Addicted to Stamps and More.

Blue and red snowman with mittens Christmas Card

I started with a clear Jolly Santa snowman stamp from Docrafts, which I stamped using a graphite black brilliance dew drop ink pad. Then using a small water colour palette I painted the stamped image and then let this dry. I created two back panels using what I think is papers by DCWV and layered these with block colours of blue and red to match the pattern. In line with the sketch I secured the long panel with double sided tape and the square panel with the stamped image using foam tape.

Then underneath this I added the Noel red and white ribbon, which I bought in the last few week and love the design of! I was having a look for snowflake gems and couldn’t find any so used these blue gems which I think are flowers but as they are quite pointy they almost look like snowflakes.

The sentiment is from a clear set by Dovecraft which I stamped using another Brilliance ink pad, but this time in Rocket Red. I mounted this on the same red and blue card to match the rest of the panels. Finally I added a few little pearlescent white gems as snow behind the snowman.

Mojo Monday card sketch challenge

This card is inspired by the sketch challenge over at Mojo Monday (which is below). This is a quick one today as I haven’t managed to keep up with the challenges I normally participate in this week, but next week I should be back on schedule and taking part throughout the week (if life doesn’t get in the way again!).

Three silver hearts pink glitter card

I started with a large slim metallic silver card for a base and added the two layers in black metallic and silver mirror card. On the black metallic card I added three die cut silver mirror card hearts with a silver gem tucked in the curve of each heart.

The sentiment is a clear sticker from Daisy & Dandelion added to a die cut silver mirror card circle. I added a black brad to the tag and mounted this using foam pad. I used a bright pink glitter ribbon at the bottom of the card and added black gems to the pink metallic layer and at the bottom right of the card. This would make a perfect Valentine’s Day or Anniversary card.

Snow People Family Christmas Card

This card is inspired by the sketch over at Pals Paper Arts and the theme challenge over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown which is Snow People, so here we have a Snow People Family Christmas Card.

Snowmen Family Christmas Card

I started with a clear snowman stamp from Hobbycraft which I stamped three times with a brilliance dewdrop ink pad in graphite black. The stamp has a top hat in the design which I left on one of the snowmen and cut off the other two. I then hand drew a santa hat for one of the other snow people. I then water coloured the snowman, woman and boy – a little family!

I added white opal liquid pearls from Ranger to the santa hat, back glitter glue to the rim of the top hat and orange glitter glue on the carrot nose and black glitter glue on the coal on the snow boy in the middle of the group. I mounted all these on the snowflake paper which I believe I received free with a crafting magazine. Finally I added the sentiment with foam tape over the wide satin blue ribon.

Lilac Happy Birthday Cute Cat Card

This card is inspired by the #369 sketch challenge over at Tuesday Morning Sketches (sketch below).  This happy birthday cute cat card is on a 5 x 7 inch lilac card and I started with lovely pastel papers from American Crafts.

Cute Cat Happy Birthday Lilac Cat Card

The striped card makes up the bottom layer then I added the floral layer and an extra strip of the gingham lilac card which I had leftover from a DCWV mat stack. I added a slim silver ribbon and stamped on a die cut circle (from an Xcut nesting die set) before adding the bow making it look like a tag. Then I added the clear sticker on the lilac card which matches the card blank and added a scalloped circle die cut behind this – then I added them using foam tape to add dimension to the card. Finally I added three little pastel flower gems in the top left corner of the card to finish off the design.

I am also entering this card into the Lemon Shortbread #24 Anything goes challenge.

As the focus of this post is a cute cat card I thought I might also add a cute photo of one of our cats – Pumpkin, who was enjoying the last of the summer sunshine today.

Pink and Silver Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

This is my entry to the Seize the Birthday challenge this week, a pink birthday butterfly card.

The base card is 5 x 7 inches and I added a DCWV mat from the Blossoms and Butterflies mat stack with a silver mat underneath it. I used a silver mirror card die cut birthday message and added these to the same patterned card with another silver mat underneath.

Finally I added a hologram sticker on top of card which I fussy cut and then added with foam pads, and stuck gems to the flowers on the foiled pattern on the card to match the colours of the butterfly.

Pink and Silver Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

I think I am going to have to really focus on festive crafting soon as I was reminded it is now less than 100 days until the big day! I even heard the first Christmas song of the year on Radio 1 – Maria Carey’s All I want for Christmas is you!

Happy Birthday Cupcake Card

This card was inspired by a very festive week in the Houlding household as it was my birthday! This sums up the party atmosphere and the sweets and treats we consumed by the bucket-load! The colours of this Happy Birthday Cupcake card are right up my street and reflected all the bright birthday cards my lovely friends and family gave to me too.

Happy Birthday Cupcake card

I used an Elizabeth Craft Design cupcake cutting die and some of my favourite papers from American crafts. The stamp is from a clear Daisy & Dandelion set and I added black gems in the centre of the bow and at the edge of the cards. I am really starting to notice how contemporary cards look when you add black as an accent colour and this is especially true in this card.

I am entering this card in the following challenges: Simon Says Stamp (anything goes) and Inspiration Destination #102 (anything goes).

Technique challenge: watercolour Christmas card

Over at 52 Christmas Card Throwdown there is a technique challenge this week: watercolouring. So here is my watercolour Christmas card…

Forever Friends Watercolour Christmas Card: diagonal stripes

I started with a Forever Friends Christmas stamp with a little bear decorating the Christmas tree – so cute! I stamped this in graphite black using a Brilliance Dew Drop Pigment Ink Pad. After waiting for this to dry I used watercolour pencils and a paintbrush and water to colour the image.

I had some really tiny star gems which I never thought I would use, but they were the perfect size for the stars on the tree. I added round gems from the same set to the corner on the card the image is stamped on and then mounted this on striped paper from a Me To You set.

Finally I stamped the sentiment using another brilliance dew drop ink pad in pearlescent ivy and added the same small round gems in the corners to match the rest of the card.

I will also be entering this card into the ‘anything goes’ challenge over at Through The Craft Room Door.

Summer fun – sailing birthday card

The theme over at A Gem of a Challenge this week is ‘summer fun’. Living near the coast in Kent, summer fun inspires days at the beach and out on the water, so I started with a nautical theme for this sailing birthday card

Sailing Birthday Card - Red and blue yacht

I used my Planes, Trains and Automobiles papers by Far and Away to create the layers and die cut the yacht by Sweet Dixie in both red and navy blue to combine the pieces. Then I used another Sweet Dixie die to cut the sentiment- can you tell I really like the Sweet Dixie style?!

I added the royal blue satin ribbon and die cut the anchor and ships wheel to finish the card.

I am also entering this card into the ‘anything goes’ challenge over at Inspiration Destination.
